CHOCOLATE ALCHEMY
book design / school project
INTRODUCTION
This project was created as part of my studies and involved designing a cookbook using Adobe InDesign. The assignment allowed us to either follow a template provided by our mentor or choose our own theme. I decided to stay within the cookbook theme but focused on chocolate, as it is one of my favorite flavors and inspired my creative vision. All text and names were generated with the help of ChatGPT, and the images were sourced from free stock photo libraries.
The goal was to create a book design that feels luxurious and elegant, with a clean layout that conveys a sense of quality and sophistication. I wanted the design to reflect richness and craftsmanship, while remaining visually approachable and appealing to the intended audience.
DESIGN DECISIONS
Theme choice: Chocolate as the central subject to reflect both personal inspiration and a universally appealing theme.
Color & Typography: Using dark, rich tones and modern typography to convey luxury, quality, and sophistication.
Imagery: Selecting a photographs that emphasize richness and high quality.
Audience focus: Designing with the target audience in mind – people who appreciate quality, indulge in fine tastes and premium products.
DESIGN PROCESS
I began by selecting a theme and gathering inspiration for a luxurious chocolate book. Using Adobe InDesign, I experimented with layout, typography, and image placement to achieve a clean and elegant look. For the cover, I chose a dark, rich photograph that evokes the feeling of high-quality chocolate. The positioning of the candies on the photo, left a perfect spot for the book title.
Throughout the design process, I focused on creating a cohesive visual flow, balancing text, images, and white space. Mockups were selected carefully to match the luxury aesthetic I envisioned. Drawing on my experience working in a bookstore, I considered how the book would stand out on a shelf and appeal to readers who value quality, taste, and indulgence.
